the mobex approach

Mobex Projects are established to provide training and development programmes utilising the outdoors, arts and environmental education for young people from disadvantaged areas, whether urban or rural.

Mobex training programmes, designed in consultation with young people, build confidence, awareness and teamwork skills. Groups explore personal and social issues, with the long-term aim of enabling the young people to realise their own potential and to become active participants in their own communities.

Mobex is effective because it leads young people to their own understanding of motivational change through guided experiences. All programmes with young people focus on: task/problem/activity - team/group - individual.

The protective factors built into the programmes focus on: problem solving, risk/challenge and it's benefits, self esteem, health, confidence, entrepreneurship, leadership, change, motivation, recognition/praise, sense of direction/purpose and involvement in life.

Through providing opportunities for young people to experience these factors in a safe but challenging environment and transferring the associated learning from activities back into their everyday lives real changes can be made in the personal and social development of the individual.

This leads onto the individual taking a greater degree of responsibility for the own life and reducing: alienation from society/community, persistent offending, serious health issues, exclusion form education, racism, unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse and many other barriers that young people face in developing the full potential as young adults in society.

These elements are developed through addressing and challenging the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the individual using the planned and stepped programmes of activity.

In addition, Mobex projects can provide training for leaders of youth and community groups in a variety of skills and methods appropriate tot he development of the young people they are working with.

Mobile:
Mobex use specially converted vehicles that allow them to travel to, and work with, client groups wherever they are based throughout each region. This unique approach enables them to deliver training programmes in any setting most appropriate to the development of the young people.

Flexible:
The individual design of each mobex training intervention draws upon a wide menu of skills and resources. Outdoor activities, arts work, environmental education and other creative mediums are used to provide educational programmes that are challenging and enjoyable. Mobex staff identify aims and targets for their work in consultation with the groups who are to participate in the course. This encourages the full involvement of the young people and increases their potential for success. In many cases there are opportunities to work towards accredited awards, or in-house certificates to acknowledge achievement (read about the LinC Leadership in the Community Programme).

Low Cost:
Mobex Projects endeavor to provide their resources at a low cost to the participants. This may be achieved through joint fundraising efforts, subsidised costs or sponsorship. The focus remains to provide young people with a quality training experience and, wherever possible, to give them access to opportunities that ensure their personal development.

Networking:
Mobex Projects act as training resources and, as such, they develop a wide base of client groups. This allows young people access to a variety of further
training opportunities and gives Mobex staff the information and contacts to support young people in choosing progressions that are stimulating and developmental.

Mobex Practice:
Mobex training programmes are delivered by experienced, qualified staff and volunteers to the highest standards. At all times the physical and mental welfare of participants is of paramount importance.

At all times Mobex Projects adhere to develop and review 'best practice' within all activities.

All Mobex projects are registered with, and operate within guidelines set by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). All Mobex Projects are covered by public liability insurance.
